Where are the pyramids in Egypt?

The pyramids of Egypt are mainly situated on the Giza Plateau. The most famous among them is the Great Pyramid of Giza, built as a tomb for Pharaoh Khufu. It is also recognized as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The Giza complex includes two other major pyramids: the Pyramid of Khafre and the Pyramid of Menkaure. In addition to these pyramids, the site is home to the Sphinx, a massive limestone statue with the body of a lion and the head of a pharaoh.

Beyond Giza, many other pyramids are scattered throughout Egypt. At Saqqara, the Pyramid of Djoser is the oldest monumental stone structure. It marks an early phase in pyramid construction.

Dahshur is home to the Bent Pyramid and the Red Pyramid, both built by Pharaoh Sneferu. These pyramids showcase early attempts to achieve the perfect pyramid shape. Further south, the pyramid at Meidum is partially collapsed. It provides valuable insights into early pyramid-building techniques.

These pyramids were built as tombs for pharaohs and other important individuals. They reflect the ancient Egyptians' strong belief in the afterlife. The pyramid fields at Abusir, Saqqara, and Dahshur are part of the Memphis and its Necropolis UNESCO World Heritage Site.
